GCSE English
Why Study English?
At Soham Village College, students take the knowledge and skills that form the basis of Key Stage 3 and hone these while studying for GCSEs in English Language and English Literature. In English Language, students read a variety of forms of fiction and non-fiction and develop their ability to write for a wide-range of audience and purposes. In English Literature, students study a Shakespeare play, poetry from the 18th to 21st centuries, as well as contemporary and 19th century fiction. While reading these texts, we consider how meaning has been created and how different readers and audiences would react. Students also learn how to articulate their understanding of these texts when writing analytical essays.
