Library

The library at Soham Village College is at the heart of the school, situated opposite the science block. It is managed by Mrs Webb (Librarian) and is open from 8.15am until 4.00pm, Monday to Friday for students to access learning materials, computers and reading books. Students can borrow up to three books at a time for a two week period, in addition to DVDs and magazines that are also available to borrow. Mrs Webb is also supported by a fantastic team of trained student librarians.

The library has quiet study tables for students to work and learn, as well as a dedicated quiet reading area for those who want to get away from the hustle and bustle of student life. Tuesday, Thursday & Friday breaktimes are dedicated as ‘Quiet Breaktimes’ for silent study and reading. Outside of these times students are also welcome to borrow from a small selection of board games and use the Lego table.

As well as an extensive non-fiction area for students to use, there is a wide range of fiction reading materials to appeal to all interests. These include dyslexia friendly print, audiobooks, manga and graphic novels, comics and magazines as well as a great selection of teen and young adult novels across all genres.

The library is also home to 32 computers available before and after school (as well as at break and lunch) for students to complete their homework. The school’s homework club is also based in the library and this is run after school until 16:00, Monday - Friday. These sessions have support from a teaching assistant who can help students to complete their work.

There is also a selection of extra-curricular activities available at break and lunchtimes including a reading group, Rubiks club, bingo sessions and an online games club.
