Success for Debating Team
Two finalists from Soham Village College’s debating team were chosen by Lucy Frazer MP to compete with six other local schools in the Houses of Parliament, judged by the current Attorney General.
The students showed tenacity and quick thinking in their debates, in which they both represented the school exceptionally well. Their research-based debate and relentless points of interest, combined with a well-projected delivery meant that our students emerged from the tough debate triumphant- with Joshua Sargent taking first place for Soham Village College. The whole team then enjoyed a personal tour of parliament, including the House of Commons from Lucy Frazer, who offered them inside knowledge on parliamentary procedures.
Miss Wild, teacher at Soham Village College, said: ''I am so proud of every member of the debate team's efforts this term. They have all showed incredible independent and collaborative work throughout many lunchtime sessions which has seen them all improve their debating styles and personal confidence throughout the term. Seeing all of their hard work pay off with the first-place win in the Houses of Parliament was the ultimate victory.''
