Study Plus - Year 8

 

Units
In Key Stage 3 students will have three lessons a fortnight, where they will follow a curriculum, which will enhance their literacy, presentation skills, confidence and awareness of the world around them, this part of the curriculum runs alongside the KS3 English provision. Students will also begin studying for the Entry Level Award in Workplace Hazard Awareness (British Safety Council)

Assessment
In line with BTEC style qualifications students will receive a pass, merit or distinction mark

Autumn  

Paper 4 (British Safety Council)  - Health and Safety signage and the prevention of accidents this will continue until the end of Autumn Term- All About Me presentation -  presentation skills and improving self-confidence

Internally assessed paper 4

Formal presentation of ‘All About Me’ PowerPoints with peer and teacher feedback

Introduction to descriptive writing – the 5 senses and Christmas markets

Students will have formal feedback from their final piece of descriptive writing

Spring 

Paper 5 (British Safety Council) – looking at Personal Protective Equipment this will continue until the end of Spring Term Internally assess paper 5
Students will have formal feedback from their final piece of descriptive writing
Product invention – students invent a product and have to do a sales pitch for the product Student presentation will be peer and teacher assessed.

Summer 

Leaflets – review of a variety of leaflets for tourist attractions and production of own Final leaflet will be formally assessed
Research and discussion – research into the effects of gaming and a discussion on the positive and negative effects Final assessment through discussion
