Business Studies

Why study Business Studies?

Business Studies encourages students to think creatively about current issues facing real businesses. Students consider the role of Operations, HR, Finance and Marketing as they react to changes in the external business environment, to recommend what different businesses would do to achieve their objectives.

Students develop skills such as team work and communication, whilst gaining confidence to explore how different business situations affect business decisions on a local, national and global level. Students are required to use both qualitative and quantitative skills to build balanced arguments and evaluate key decisions in business, developing critical and reflective mindsets. Alongside this, students will experience how business works in the real world, through use of case studies, projects, guest speakers and visits to local businesses and workplaces.

Business Studies results are consistently good and many students choose to continue to study the subject. Last year results for Business Studies were in the top 2% of the country, showing students make great progress in this subject.

Where can it take you?

The range of skills students develop and the breath of topics gives students many options for future education and career paths. Business allows students to continue to study Business courses or Economics.  There is also the opportunity for students to gain apprenticeships in a range of subjects.

Business is favoured by many educational providers as it links to a variety of career paths and encompasses a wide range of topics from the real world.  Popular career and educational paths from previous students have been; Marketing, Accounting, HR as well as Law, Media, Sport, Computing and ICT. These courses have a direct link to Business Studies. Business affects everyone and the level 2 courses we offer at Soham Village College apply to any path students may choose in the future.
